On 28th June 2018, the official hand-over ceremony for the keys to the Wellington College Hangzhou campus took place, along with the official launch ceremony for Wellington College International Hangzhou. Mr. Ye Jianhong, Member of the Standing Committee under the Xiaoshan District Committee, Director of the Administrative Committee of the Xiaoshan Economic and Technological Development Area, Ms. Joy Qiao, Chair of Governors of Wellington College China; Mr. Paul Rogers, Founding Executive Master of Wellington College Hangzhou, and Mr. Xu Guanju, Chairman of Transfar Group, along with relevant media guests, attended this grand milestone event in the history of Wellington College Hangzhou. The timely completion of the campus means that the establishment of Huili School Hangzhou and Wellington College International Hangzhou has entered the final stage, making us fully ready to open this coming fall.
During the ceremony, pupil representatives in school uniforms handed over the “Keys to the Campus” symbolizing the completion of the construction of the school to Mr. Yang Baizhang, President of Xiaoshan Innovation Polis, who in turn formally presented the key to Mr. Rogers.
Filled with confidence, Mr. Rogers said, “Our vision is to create a caring, bilingual community. We believe that the entire environment and facilities should be educational, so the first priority of our advanced facilities is to meet the various learning needs of our pupils. Taking this key means that we are finally set to achieve great success, and inject all our love, faith, and dreams about education into these new world-class facilities. Embodying the great heritage from Wellington College with more than 100 years history, and bringing best practices from all sister schools in Wellington College China, we are dedicating world-class education resources to Hangzhou. This is a precious gift for the future of this fine city.”
Today also marks the official launch of Wellington College International Hangzhou, the third international school of Wellington College China after Tianjin and Shanghai. The school will offer a world-class international education for children of expatriate families from the ages of 5 to 18. In the first phase of opening in 2018, the College will operate from Year 1 to Year 6 (ages 5 to 11) and then grow year-on-year to offer a pathway to IGCSE and A-Levels or the IB Diploma.
Mr. Rogers extended his appreciation to all the people that support the school, noting, “We are very proud to be officially opening Wellington College International Hangzhou one year in advance of the original planned date. On behalf of Wellington College Hangzhou, I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere appreciation for the great support from the education departments of both Zhejiang Provincial and Hangzhou Municipal Government. Taking advantage of successfully hosting the G20 summit, Hangzhou has become a world-famous city, attracting high-end international talents to settle down, significantly increasing the demand for high-quality education.
Wellington College China is committed to providing a world-leading, well-rounded education for pupils both inside and out of the classroom. As with all Wellington College schools, the Huili Values and Identities form the heart of our holistic education. The Huili Values of courage, respect, integrity, kindness, and responsibility are as pertinent today as they were more than 159 years ago when Wellington College was founded in the United Kingdom. The Huili vision is for pupils to become intellectual, independent, inspired, individual and inclusive; the Huili Identities. This is based on a model of holistic education and pastoral provision that promotes the values and develops the knowledge needed to be an effective global citizen.
