Answers to the Top 15 Most Frequently Asked Questions

Choosing a school for your child is one of the most important decisions a family can make. We are confident that at Wellington College Bilingual Hangzhou, we offer the best education available to children of all nationalities. Below are some of the most frequently asked questions of parents attending Meet the Master parent information sessions, and through daily enquiries to the Admissions team.

1 Do you offer school bus? What are the bus routes?

Yes, Wellington College Bilingual Hangzhou will offer a professional, safe and convenient bus programme throughout the city of Hangzhou. We are extremely proud of the bus company that has been selected, following a rigorous tendering process. The school bus will be available for pupils from Grade 1-7.

At this early stage we cannot guarantee that every family who applies for our bus service will have a pick-up and drop-off point directly to or from their desired address. Creating bus routes is a complex process. However, we are fortunate to have selected one of the most professional bus services available to international and bilingual schools in China. Through their advanced bus route mapping software, they can calculate the quickest and most efficient bus routes throughout the city. As a result, we are confident that our bus service will reach all desired addresses within a 60-minute drive from the school. If you have been offered a place at the College and would like to apply for the bus service, please log into your OpenApply account and complete the bus application form. You will be informed of the bus route availability once routes have been finalised.

Some of the key features of our school bus service are:

  • Air purifiers on all school buses to ensure the safety of the children
  • Mobile messaging system to alert parents when children alight the bus
  • Mapping system to show parents where the buses are at all times (via mobile app)
  • Central managing system where the routes of all buses, and their current speed, are tracked in real-time
  • Regular safety drills and inspections

2 My home is far away from your school, and we have applied for Grade 2. So could you please make an exception for my child to get boarding?

We believe that children should live at home with their parents during their critical developmental stages of early Primary school, in line with our educational ethos of well-rounded development. As a result, we will open boarding for Grades 4 and above. We have no plans at this stage to open boarding for Grades 3 or below in the future.

3 How is lunch arranged for pupils?

Through our rigorous catering tendering process, we are proud to announce that we have selected Sodexo to be the catering services manager for Wellington College Hangzhou.

Sodexo is a world leader in quality of life services, serving 75 million consumers worldwide daily. In Asia-Pasific, Sodexo is the choice of catering vendor for many top-class educaional institutes. 4 How can you make sure the air quality is good?

All Wellington College schools take the health and safety of our pupils and staff as a number one priority. This extends from the quality and safety of the materials chosen to construct and furnish the school, through to the air that our community members breathe throughout the day. The school has been constructed by the same team who built Wellington College International Shanghai, to the same high Wellington specifications of safety and quality. Almost all furniture throughout the school comes from Haworth, a well-regarded and highly awarded international furniture brand that uses E0 board materials, meeting the highest environmental standards. Tables, chairs and workstations throughout the campus are certified by US LEED and Green Guard.

At any time when the outside Air Quality Index exceeds 150 ppm of PM2.5, outside activities will be suspended and children will be required to hold their break-times inside. We are fortunate to have extensive indoor facilities, including a 1,500 square metre indoor gymnasium. All school buildings are installed with a centralised ventilation system including G4+F8 filters, which can filter more than 85% of PM2.5 air pollution particles. But, we don’t stop there. In addition to this, every single classroom is equipped with a Panasonic Air Purification system. This brand of air purification was selected after an extensive testing and assessment period in our Nursery building during the pre-opening phase of the College, where it was determined that the Panasonic systems achieved superior air purification results. Our air-conditioning systems throughout the College are also of the highest levels of quality. Here, we have selected the Daikin VRV system for classrooms and the Trane HVAC system for large open spaces. We stay committed to the health and well-being of our children, and our high-quality air purification system is evidence of that commitment. Parents of Wellington College Bilingual Hangzhou can rest assured that their children will be taught in a clean and safe environment.
