Alejandro Montoya

Alejandro is a passionate teacher and artist who strongly believes that anyone can sing and make music. He focuses his teaching from a holistic point of view always making sure every single pupil he teaches feel included, validated and makes consistent progress in their learning.

Alejandro was born in Armenia, Colombia. After several relocations within the country his family stablised in Medellin, Colombia where he gained a Bachelor of Music Education Degree with UNAC “Corporacion Universitaria Adventista” in 2005. Alejandro then started teaching music at primary and secondary levels. He moved to London, UK in 2008 looking to improve his English language skills and had the opportunity to teach music at John Keble Primary School where he established a successful music department with a wonderful and winning choir in his borough. Alejandro worked as Head of Music at Eaton House the Manor Pre-Preparatory School in London before moving to Huili School Hangzhou.

Alejandro has focused his musical artistry in singing, choirs, conducting and drama. He is a professional baritone singer with a powerful, velvety and tantalising voice. He possesses wonderful stage presence with the ability to connect with audiences. He started singing from an early age and showed natural music talent. On his arrival in London in 2008, Alejandro joined the London Philharmonic Choir singing at different venues like The Royal Albert Hall and The Royal Festival Hall. He has sung in many operettas, a few operas and even an amateur version of Addams Family the Musical – as the main character.

In his very little spare time Alejandro enjoys socialising, travelling, learning languages and watching movies. His biggest passion, after music of course, is eating!

Alejandro is incredibly excited to be in Hangzhou and working for such a phenomenal school like Huili School Hangzhou. He has fallen in love with the school values and identity. He is also very much looking forward to learning Mandarin and helping others to fall in love with music.
