Chrissie Obillo

Chrissie worked as an English Teacher and most recently as a Leadership Coach for 4 years. In 2007, after completing a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Marketing and Advertising at The University of Arts London, Chrissie sought to combine her creative business skills with a commitment to nurturing young people. Chrissie was drawn to the charity sector and achieved success in Marketing and Community Fundraising Events at some of the UK’s leading children’s charities including The National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children.

In 2007, keen to gain first-hand experience with young people and local communities, Chrissie took the opportunity to visit the tsunami affected area of Phuket in Thailand where she trained to become a Teach English as a Foreign Language teacher. Chrissie taught English to children and adults from the ages of 11 to 50 years. Teaching abroad ignited a love of travelling and a desire to learn about other cultures that later led Chrissie to travel all over South America, including Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil, teaching English to locals in exchange for Spanish and Portuguese language skills.

Chrissie has long held an enduring passion for Art, Design, Dance and Fitness which eventually steered her towards studying short courses in Textiles, Fashion Design, and Performance Costume. During this period Chrissie developed a wild enthusiasm for life-long learning and in 2011, she earned a Postgraduate Certificate in Fashion Buying and Merchandising at the prestigious London College of Fashion. Chrissie has since accomplished a colourful career in Fashion Buying at notable luxury fashion retailers including Harvey Nichols and Net-A-Porter.

Chrissie fervently believes in the benefits of a well-rounded education and is an advocate of ongoing personal development through mentoring and coaching, which she continues to participate in herself. Since 2015, Chrissie has trained extensively as a Leadership Coach for adults and young people aged 7-18 years, during which she designed a community project in South London encouraging young people to become involved in Dance, Sports and Fitness.

Having trained in Jazz Dance for 8 years, Chrissie takes much pleasure in dancing in a variety of styles namely in Latin, African and Urban dance genres. In her spare time Chrissie also enjoys practising Pilates, Mysore style Ashtanga Yoga, as well as spending time in the gym in fitness training and running. Chrissie has raced in three half-marathons and is currently training to improve her half-marathon personal record. She has her sights set on running the Hangzhou Marathon.

Chrissie is very excited to be joining Huili School Hangzhou as a Teaching Assistant. She is looking forward to meeting the next generation of future bright leaders and grounding them in the Wellington College values, to be extraordinarily effective and successful in life. Chrissie cannot wait to share her zest for learning and to engage with the students to see them raise their aspirations beyond what they think is possible; to grow a profound curiosity about subjects; to develop deep compassion and respect for others; and ultimately, to inspire the students to recognise their future worth and contribution on the world stage.
