Grace Bouwers

Grace Bouwers graduated from Brunel University, London, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Secondary Education with Physical Education as her speciality. After 4 years of PE teaching, coaching and pastoral experience in inner London Hackney, she was motivated to make the move to Huili School, Hangzhou. Her pedagogy focuses on a student centered approach to learning through guided discovery and encouraging students to be the best they can be. Her research has focused on the value and emphasis on cooperation and self competition in PE and sport. As a result of this her area of expertise is outdoor education, in particular orienteering. Grace is passionate about the great outdoors and believes the best classroom and the richest cupboard is roofed only with the sky. Risk and challenge are the best catalyst for learning and immersing students in such environments allows powerful development intellectually, physically, spiritually, socially and morally. The very nature of this will prepare our students for challenge, adversity and make them better leaders and collaborators of tomorrow. I hope that here in Hangzhou we can inspire a love of learning through challenge, risk taking, problem solving and most of all teamwork. When not teaching she loves to embraces outdoor pursuits and is an active skier, hiker and cyclist. When living in the UK she competed at South East/West championship level for both London Welsh and Hampstead ladies Rugby Union as a scrumhalf. Now playing for Hangzhou Harlequins she trains and competes in tournaments around China. She also loves to travel and immerse herself in new cultures, traditions and most importantly, food!
