Mark Saunders was born and educated in England. He obtained both his Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and Teaching Certification from the University of Southampton. Mark started his teaching career in England, but the majority of his working experience is in overseas schools. He taught for an extended period in the Dominican Republic, where he was Head of Science, after which he moved to Beijing, China. Whilst in Beijing, Mark worked in two IB schools for a total of fourteen years, where he taught MYP Mathematics and Science and also DP Mathematics and Chemistry. Mark is currently an IBDP examiner for Chemistry.
Whilst teaching overseas, Mark has taken advantage of opportunities to visit many different countries and learn about the richness of different cultures. He has a keen interest in sports, particularly golf and cricket, both as a player and spectator, and has coached a variety of student sports teams, including field hockey, cricket, football and softball.
Mark’s approach to teaching in the classroom focuses on student engagement and inclusivity. He has always been fascinated by the workings of the natural world and this is translated into a commitment to providing students with concepts, skills and dispositions to become effective learners.
