Nelia Truter is from Cape Town, South Africa. She graduated from North-West University with a degree in Business Communication. She also holds a degree in Social and Health Sciences from UNISA. Nelia discovered her passion for teaching while working as an EFL teacher for the EPIK Programme in South Korea. Upon returning to South Africa, she decided to embark on a teaching career and completed her PGCE at UNISA.
During her career, Nelia has taught children of all ages from 6 to 18 years and has experienced different curricula. Nelia is passionate about curriculum development. She was part of a programme of educational reform where she informally mentored local Kazakh teachers and introduced new teaching methods, critical thinking and co-curricular activities. Nelia believes education should be student-centred, engaging and meaningful.
One of Nelia’s interests is drama. Nelia believes that students can express themselves through drama which helps to build confidence and increase their communication skills. Nelia started a drama club at her previous school and co-directed a play.
Outside the classroom, Nelia enjoys travelling. Prior to teaching, Nelia worked as a flight attendant. Working as a flight attendant helped her to develop an appreciation of the positive impact of different cultures. Nelia also has a passion for cooking. She appeared on a TV programme in Kazakhstan, introducing new dishes to the Kazakh community.
Nelia is very excited to be joining Huili School, Hangzhou. She is enthusiastic about her new role and is committed to achieving the best outcomes for all students.
